Penasquitos Canyon
Some parks have all the perks! Penasquitos Canyon serves stunning greenery (the pepper trees are my favorites), rustic dirt trails, wide open fields and fence lines for days! Whether photographing high school seniors or extended families, there are so many hidden gems at Penasquitos Canyon to get the perfect scenery. As mentioned, the pepper trees are spectacular, as are all the cactus on the property – they just really provide variation in greens and textures – so pretty! Even if you don’t take photos here, it’s a gorgeous trail to hike!
Chula Vista Flower Fields
Earlier this spring I was on the hunt for a great flower field for some senior sessions and longtime friends who had their hearts set on wildflowers. San Diego had a weak winter rain season and an even drier spring season, so wildflower fields were hard to find in the usual go-to spots around the county. Luckily, the mustard seed flowers were strong in Chula Vista! Can’t wait to see what spring of 2026 delivers around town in wildflowers!
Old Poway Park
When you’re looking for rustic buildings, pretty green spaces, huge barn doors, sweet little bridges and winding train tracks, Old Poway Park is the spot to hit! The park isn’t big, but it gives so many great spaces to photograph families, seniors, couples and it’s great for milestone sessions too! Don’t let the western vibe fool you, there are plenty of spots to create the look you want. But if you’re embracing the cowboy boots and hat, I’m here for that too!
